Snow squall warning in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake

Conditions are favourable for a period of lake effect snow squalls off of Georgian Bay this tonight through Thursday afternoon.

Hazards:
Local snowfall accumulations of 15 to 20 cm by Thursday afternoon.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero.

Timing:
Continuing tonight through Thursday afternoon. Snow squalls are expected to reintensify Thursday evening.

Discussion:
Lake effect snow squalls off of Georgian Bay will continue into Thursday afternoon. As northwesterly winds become westerly Thursday afternoon, there may be a lull in the intensity of lake effect snow. Snow squalls are expected to reintensify Thursday evening and may persist into Friday.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
