Snow squall warnings continue today: Environment Canada

Locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 10 to 20 cm, with up to 30 cm possible near Georgian Bay are possible, Environment Canada says. Strong winds gusting up to 60 km/h will accompany these snow squalls resulting in significantly reduced visibility at times

   Newmarket - Georgina - Northern York Region
   Innisfil - New Tecumseth - Angus

Current details:
Snow squalls to develop this morning.

Hazards:
Locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 10 to 20 cm, with up to 30 cm possible near Georgian Bay.
Intense snowfall rates of up to 5 cm per hour at times.
Reduced visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Timing:
Beginning this morning, and continuing until this evening.

Discussion:
Lake effect snow squalls are forecast to move into the area this morning. These snow squalls will continue through the day before weakening tonight.

Strong winds gusting to 60 km/h will accompany these snow squalls resulting in significantly reduced visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
