South Simcoe Police investigate loose canoe incident

Canoe owner facing hefty fine

A motorist in Innisfil was lucky to escape unhurt after a canoe hit the hood of his car.

South Simcoe Police say the incident happened at 1:55 p.m. Monday when a canoe fell off the back of a truck driving on Yonge Street at the 14th Line.

The canoe bounced on the road and smashed into the hood of the car driving behind the truck.

"This could've been very serious. Luckily no one was injured," said South Simcoe Police Const. Rich Williamson. "It could've gone right through the window and could've caused a tragedy."

The driver of the truck was slapped with a $130 fine for having an insecure load.

"It's very important that people tie down what they are transporting," Williamson said.
