NEWS RELEASE

SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE

*************************
Saturday, May 21 is Prescription Drug Drop Off Day. Police agencies from coast to coast are partnering with local pharmacists to get unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs out of your medicine cabinet.

Prescription drug abuse has become a serious problem in recent years. Getting unused or expired prescriptions destroyed makes it impossible for them to fall into the wrong hands.

The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, together with Health Canada, Public Safety Canada, Partnership for a Drug Free Canada, the Canadian Pharmacists Association, the Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse all support this important initiative.

South Simcoe Police are partnering with Shoppers Drug Mart in both Bradford and Innisfil.

On Saturday, May 21, between 10 a.m and 2 p.m., a South Simcoe Auxiliary Police officer will be at both locations to greet the public and direct them to the pharmacy, where they can surrender their unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs for disposal in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Never dispose of prescription drugs by flushing them or throwing them into the garbage. Any pharmacy will take in unwanted drugs, at any time, free of charge.

Do your part to make your community safer. Join us on Saturday, May 21, Prescription Drug Drop Off Day!

Shoppers Drug Mart, Bradford, is located at 140 Holland Street West. The Alcona Shoppers Drug Mart is located at 1145 Innisfil Beach Road.

In addition, South Simcoe Police will also be on hand with Barrie Police at Barrie Molson Center for drop offs.
