Giving blood never looked so good.

From now until Saturday Aug. 11, Sports Clips Haircuts is teaming with the Canadian Blood Services to help bring lifesaving blood products to those who need them.

With two locations in Barrie (Park Place and North Barrie Crossing), the popular haircutting establishment sponsored a week at the Barrie blood donor clinic located on Bayview Avenue. Edward Lee is a co-owner of Sports Clips and says this was just something he and his team felt was necessary with so many people in hospital needing blood.

“We’ve been in Barrie for a few years now but we’re still fairly new and we still have that desire to give back to our community,” said Lee, who was giving blood when BarrieToday called him. “In our local area there is something like 1,200 patients in need of blood right now and with so many others able to give we just wanted to get as many of our customers out there and helping.”

Sports Clips is looking to recruit at least 200 donations to the clinic through the sponsorship by handing out pamphlets at both locations while the clinic itself is active in the week-long partnership.

“Anyone who gets a haircut with us will get a flier with some information that may push them into wanting to give,” said Lee. “Likewise, when you give blood at the clinic this week, you will receive a card for a free haircut from us. I don’t think a business in a city should just open and close each day but rather give back as best they can. We just did the Heart and Stroke Big Bike a little while ago and not only does it give back but it also creates a team environment within the workplace with our employees and customers."

This year, 100,000 new blood donors are needed across Canada to meet patient needs.

You can take part by making an appointment to: Give Life at the Barrie blood donor clinic, at 231 Bayview Avenue, Suite 100 from Tuesday, August 7th to Saturday Aug. 11.
