The start of the August long weekend is not going swimmingly for some boaters.
Due to a "surge in vessel traffic" on the Trent-Severn Waterway (TSW) in the Washago area, there is "a temporary backlog at the Big Chute Marine Railway and Lock 45 — Port Severn," noted a tweet from the TSW.
Boaters visiting Big Chute can expect up to a five-hour delay heading downstream.
"Our team is addressing this influx of traffic swiftly and efficiently," noted the tweet, which went on to say boaters are advised to expect delays in lockages within this area. "Thank you for your patience and understanding during this high-volume period."
Lock 45 at Port Severn is currently experiencing a two-hour delay due to boat volume for vessels heading towards Georgian Bay.
There have been issues in the lock system this year, particularly at Big Chute, where frustrated boaters have said that delays are typical. Some boaters have had to make alternative plans for two summers in a row due to issues at the marine railway.
