The City of Barrie announced this afternoon (July 6) that swim advisories have been removed at Minet's Point and Centennial Beach.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit recommended the advisories for the two local beaches be lifted after bacteriological results from samples taken July 5 showed the water to be within the acceptable range for recreational use.

Signs have been removed from the two beaches.

The advisories had been in place since last week after water samples taken on June 28 showed elevated bacteria levels.

During a swimming advisory, the beach is posted with warning signs indicating the most recent water samples showed bacteria in numbers that may increase your risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness. If you choose to swim during a swimming advisory, health officials advise people to avoid dunking their head or swallowing the water.
