Based on water sample results from Monday (June 28), the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has recommended swim advisories be posted for Minet’s Point and Centennial Beach in Barrie due to elevated bacteria levels.
The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon by the City of Barrie.
City staff are currently posting signs at the two local beaches.
New water samples are also expected to be collected today. A status update will be provided once a decision is made by the health unit.
An advisory was also posted in the middle of last week for Minet's Point, but was lifted on Friday.
During a swimming advisory, the beach is posted with warning signs indicating the most recent water samples showed bacteria in numbers that may increase your risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness. If you choose to swim during a swimming advisory, health officials advise people to avoid dunking their head or swallowing the water.
