With the weekend upon us and the summer soon coming to a close, a swim advisory has been lifted for Centennial Beach in Barrie.

The City of Barrie announced Friday afternoon that the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has recommended the advisory be rescinded for the popular local beach. The city says bacteriological results from samples taken Thursday, Aug. 25 are now within the 'acceptable' range for recreational water use.

Municipal environmental compliance staff have removed the signs from the beach.

The advisory had been issued following water samples initially taken Tuesday, Aug. 23. This recent advisory marked the third time this summer an advisory has been posted at Centennial. Previous advisories were issued on Aug. 8 (lifted on Aug. 11) and July 20 (lifted July 22).

During a swim advisory, signs are posted to indicate recent water samples show bacteria levels that may increase risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness. If you choose to swim during an advisory, health officials recommend you avoid dunking your head or swallowing the water.
