At Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) Annual General Meeting, Michael O’Keefe was named the new chairperson of the RVH Board of Directors for a two-year term and four new board members were welcomed.

Michael joined the RVH Board of Directors in June 2014 and has recently retired from the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board where he served for seven years as the Director of Education.

“Michael brings a wealth of experience, leadership and knowledge to this role,” says Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO. “Having been a very active member of our board for a number of years, he is well-versed in health care issues and has demonstrated excellence in governance.”

In addition to the new board chair, Charlotte Wallis became the first vice-chair and Doug Frost was appointed second vice-chair. Four new members were welcomed to the RVH board - Kimberly Matheson, Wendy Miller and Jason Teal from Barrie, and Midhurst resident Linda Collins.

As governors of the health centre, the volunteer-based Board of Directors not only monitors performance standards and financial accountability, but ensures RVH delivers on its strategic plan. RVH is fortunate to have an extremely skilled and diverse board, with members bringing unique skills and perspectives that benefit the health centre.

Effective in September, Dr. Rob El-Maraghi will become president of the RVH Medical Staff with Dr. Emily Chan taking on the role of vice-president.

The RVH Foundation Board of Directors also saw a change in leadership with John Byles becoming chair. Byles, owner of FK Machinery and former chair of Barrie’s Economic Development Committee, has been a member of the Foundation Board since 2012 and has chaired the Finance Committee since 2013.

Past board chair Dave McCullough will continue to lead the Foundation’s Hearts & Minds fundraising campaign.

Lastly, Lise McCourt has been named the new RVH Auxiliary President for a two-year team. Lise has volunteered at RVH since 2014, assisting with special projects including the Auxiliary bazaar and has held a director position on the Auxiliary board since 2015.
