Stevenson Memorial Hospital has added two new members to the medical team this month.
Dr. Lauren O'Malley, a general surgeon with experience in cancer care, arrived November 9.
She is very skilled in breast surgery, including both benign and malignant surgical care.
She also provides caring after-surgery follow-up, colonoscopies for FIT positive patients and colon cancer screenings for high-risk patients.
“Dr. O'Malley's varied experience in cancer care and surgeries will add to our skilled medical staff here at Stevenson,” said Stevenson's Chief of Staff, Dr. Oswaldo Ramirez.
The hospital has also recruited Dr. Jacob Scheeres, an obstetrician/gynecologist with over 25 years experience, including 11 years at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie.
Scheeres ran a successful family practice in South Africa, his birthplace, in 1994.
He came to Canada in 1995 and established a busy family practice in Manitoba that served a large obstetrical patient population.
He completed five years of residency at the University of Manitoba where he became interested in maternal medicine.
Scheeres was awarded for the best resident research paper in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of Manitoba in 2002 and was recognized nationally by the Canadian Foundation for Women's Health.
His research has been published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Canada, with that research still used today by Motherisk as one of the references for Fetal Solvent Syndrome.
“I am very excited to announce the addition of Dr. Scheeres to our medical staff at Stevenson in our efforts to provide exceptional talent and continue improving the quality of care we provide to our patients,” says Dr. Jody Levac, President and CEO.
