Investigators with Barrie Police Service have arrested one male and are seeking two additional male suspects as part of an ongoing investigation into a break and enter which resulted into a vehicle crashing into a house on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
Witnesses reported seeing two men kicking in the door of a home on Cumming Drive just before 2:00 p.m. The pair then got into Jeep Cherokee that had been waiting and fled the area.
The vehicle was spotted travelling northbound on Essa Road by police. The vehicle then turned on Ferndale Drive, South, where police attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and began to travel at a high rate of speed through the intersection of Ferndale and Ardagh Drive, which immediately resulted in police disengaging the vehicle.
Minutes later the vehicle lost control at the intersection of Ferndale Drive and Cuthbert Street, crashing through a fence and into a home on Ferndale Drive. The three suspects fled the scene on foot and one suspect was located by the canine unit at Elizabeth Park.
The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old Mississauga man was arrested and charged with; Break and Enter, Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Stop at Scene of an Accident, Possession of Property obtained by Crime and two counts of Breach of Recognizance. He appeared in bail court on Thursday June 14, 2018, and was remanded into custody.
The investigation is ongoing and residents living in the area are asked to check any video surveillance they may have.
