Lace up your red high-heeled shoes and take a stand against domestic violence at the 15th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Barrie.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, the community will come together at the Southshore community centre to march one mile in solidarity with survivors of intimate partner violence.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is more than just a march – it's a powerful statement of support for those affected by domestic abuse. By donning red high heels and walking side by side, participants spark conversations, raise awareness, and show their commitment to ending violence against women and children.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with registration and photo opportunities, followed by opening remarks at 11:45 a.m. The walk itself commences at 12 p.m., culminating in a lunch and prize giveaway at 12:45 p.m.

Participants can register individually or as part of a team by visiting our website barrieshelter.com/walk-a-mile/

Proceeds from Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will benefit the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie, supporting their vital programs and services for survivors of abuse in Simcoe County.

For over four decades, the shelter has provided a safe haven for women and children fleeing domestic violence, offering emergency shelter, counselling, legal advocacy and more.

The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie operates a 27-bed facility providing round-the-clock support to those in need. Funds raised from #WAM2024 will directly contribute to shelter operations, counselling services, housing transition assistance, crisis intervention and educational outreach.

With a fundraising goal of $70,000, the Barrie and Simcoe County community is poised to make a significant impact in supporting survivors and creating a safer, more equitable society.

Join us on Sept. 7 as we walk together towards a future free from domestic violence. Together, we can make a difference.
