With the snowfall the city has had the last couple of days, many people are hitting the local hills for some tobogganing fun.
But where are they going?
Barrie has many hills around town and if searching, one can find the perfect snow-covered spot to shoot themselves down on.
But where to begin is the most obvious question.
Many know about Sunnidale Park’s huge hill as a great spot to take a sled and zip down the massive slope for a fast and fun ride.
Kaylee McDonald and Brian Moody brought their little ones —Blake, 10, and six-year-old Khloe — to Sunnidale for the big-hill experience.
Having just moved to Barrie a year ago from Orillia, this was their first time at the popular Sunnidale hill.
“We actually struggled to find a hill in Barrie and were surprised because the city is supposed to be so hilly, if that's a word,” McDonald told BarrieToday. “We heard about this spot online and the kids were so excited to get out there.”
Blake said he planned on being on the hill “all day long,” but many know that what goes down, must come up and Sunnidale’s incline is harder to beat than its decline.
Unknown to some is the hill to the side of the big one that comes out of the forest. It is smaller, but just as fast at times.
Another popular spot is the hill behind Hillcrest Public School on Toronto Street. The slope isn’t as steep as Sunnidale, but the entire experience is just as fun.
Peter Madosh takes his daughter on the weekends to the Hillcrest run and says it’s fun because there are a lot of people there every time.
“I like the crowd, actually,” Madosh said. “It adds to the season, as if everyone is getting out and enjoying the snow together.
"It was like that when I was a kid and brings back so many memories.”
Other hills that earned a mention was the smaller hill by West Bayfield Public School and for those looking for adventure, there are the hills at Hurst Park in the city’s south end.
Hurst Park’s hills are steep and surrounded by trees, so use caution.
So, it begs the question: Where do you go for a toboggan ride? Do you know any secret spots?
