The Barrie Police Homicide Unit is investigating the death of an infant, which is believed to have occurred on Monday, July 30.

"We got a call on Wednesday from a local doctor's office saying that a woman called saying that she gave birth out of hospital and never received medical treatment," said Barrie Police Const. Sarah Bamford.

"As a result we were contacted to check on the woman's well-being.  Further investigation leads to South Simcoe Police assisting us and they locate her at an address on Corner Brook Trail in Innisfil."

While police were there they located the body of a newborn boy.

"The infant was located outside the residence on the property," said Bamford.

A 42-year-old Innisfil woman has been charged with neglecting to obtain assistance in child birth and concealing the body of a child.  The woman will appear in a Barrie bail court today.

A forensic post-mortem is being conducted today to determine the exact cause of the baby's death.

Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
