Work begins on Bell Farm Road, some delays to be expected

Two-year project includes reconstruction and widening of Bell Farm to three lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks between St. Vincent to Duckworth

There will be intermittent lane closures and restrictions on Bell Farm Road until mid-May as the much-needed work begins on reconstructing the road between St. Vincent Street and Alliance Boulevard.

The project includes reconstruction and widening of Bell Farm Road to three lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks between St. Vincent Street to Duckworth Street.

An environmental assessment was completed in 2017, which recommended adding additional vehicular capacity as well as improved pedestrian safety measures, including sidewalks and bike lanes.

Bell Farm Road reached the end of its life and this work will also address the aging infrastructure as well as the deteriorating pavement condition.

Tree removal began in March and initial work related to the two-year project is expected to be complete May 17.

The first phase will include construction of Bell Farm Road between St. Vincent and Alliance Boulevard East. Next year, the work on Bell Farm will extend from Alliance Boulevard East and Duckworth Street.

The project includes:

  • Roadway widening and reconstruction
  • Elimination or roadside ditches and the addition of curbs and sidewalks
  • Additional of on road dedicated bike lanes
  • Mid-block pedestrian crossing at Alliance Blvd.
  • Watermain and water service replacement
  • Storm sewer construction and storm water management improvements
  • Transit infrastructure improvements
  • Construction staging to minimize impacts
  • Roadway streetlight improvements
  • Replacement of the existing wooden fence between Cynthia Court properties and Bell Farm Road
  • Removal of existing trees behind Cynthia Court to facilitate grading and construction works
  • Tree planting and landscaping between Cynthia Court and Bell Farm Road
  • Asphalt resurfacing of Alliance Boulevard
