Eastview Secondary School may be hosting one of the loudest events in the 2020 Ontario Winter Games as the kickboxing athletes fight their way to gold to the joy of adoring fans.
Approximately 50 of Ontario’s best young kickboxers descended on the home of the Wildcats, chasing a medal.
Three days of matches in the ring and on the mat brought more than families and trainers to the Eastview gymnasium.
On Saturday, 17-year-old Innsidale Secondary School student Kevin Loods took in the competition. He said he will be there again Sunday as the matches wind down between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
“I’ve never actually watched kickboxing and I can’t believe how much fun it was to see,” said Loods. "I don’t really have a favourite because I don’t know anyone, but it is really action-packed.”
Admission to the event is free and is one of 11 events being held in the city of Barrie. Barrie joins Rama, Oro-Medonte Township and Bracebridge as venues for the Orillia-based Games.
