The Chicago Blackhawks traded Barrie-born defenceman Isaak Phillips to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.
Phillips, 23, was selected by Chicago in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
In 56 games with the Blackhawks over parts of four NHL seasons, Phillips had two goals and 10 assists. Listed at six-foot-three and 205 pounds, he played in three games with the Hawks this season, scoring one goal.
In 28 games with the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs this season, Phillips had one goal and seven assists, as well as 54 penalty minutes.
Between 2018 and 2020, the left-shot defenceman played two seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's Sudbury Wolves, scoring 12 goals and adding 28 helpers in 131 regular-season games.
Going back the other way in the deal is 21-year-old Belarusian defenceman Dmitry Kuzmin, who was Winnipeg's third-round pick (82nd overall) in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He had one goal and three assists in 21 AHL games this season with the Manitoba Moose.
Listed at five-foot-10 and 195 pounds, Kuzmin played his junior hockey with the OHL's Flint Firebirds. He had 32 goals and 71 assists in regular-season games during his two seasons with the Michigan-based team, as well as one goal and 20 assists in 26 playoff games in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
