Baseball fans are being invited to celebrate the Barrie Baycats' championship with a rally Thursday night at Vintage Throne Stadium in Midhurst.
The Baycats sailed through the 2024 Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) playoffs without losing a game, culminating with a 6-2 road win over the Guelph Royals on Saturday night.
The Baycats swept the best-of-seven series against Guelph and went 10-0 in the post-season, eliminating the Toronto Maple Leafs and London Majors before taking down the fourth-seed Royals.
Thursday's free event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Barrie Community Sports Complex, located at 2100 Nursery Rd. Fans can meet some of the players and get an up-close look at the Jack and Lynne Dominico Cup. Gates open at 6 p.m.
For the Baycats, this title marks their eighth in franchise history dating back to 2001. Barrie's last IBL title came in 2019 to cap a stretch of six straight championships (2014-2019). The team made it to last year’s final before losing to Welland. The Baycats also won the championship in 2005.
