GEORGIAN GRIZZLIES
******************
The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team played their final regular season home game against the Humber Hawks on Thursday night at J.C. Massie Field on the Georgian College Barrie campus.
Facing each other for the second time this season, the game had a level of intensity that could be felt on both sides.
It was a tight, physical game throughout but it was the Grizzlies who prevailed in the end by a 39-28 score.
Ryan Connolly had a solid game for the home side. The Barrie native and third year veteran had a try and two converts to lead the Grizzlies in scoring with nine points.
Georgian’s other tries came from Joseph Alaimo (Innisfil), Rodrigo Cuello (Uraguay), Braidon Foster (Barrie), Zach Patfield (Minesing), Brodie Ranger (Elliot Lake) and Liam Wilson (Orillia).
The win keeps Georgian’s perfect record in tact as they move to 5-0 on the season and they continue to sit in first place in the OCAA west division standings.
The Grizzlies have one game remaining game on their regular season schedule, and it’s a big one.
Georgian will travel to face the second place Seneca Sting (4-1) next Thursday, Oct. 17 in North York. This will be the first meeting between these two teams this season.
A win for Georgian would clinch first place in the OCAA west division and give the Grizzlies a direct bye to the playoff semi-final, which would be played in Barrie.
