The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team took on the Sheridan Bruins in the third annual Battle of the Bears rivalry game on Saturday night at J.C. Massie Field on the Georgian College Barrie campus.

The Brown Bear Trophy was on the line between the two OCAA west division rivals.

After a tight battle early, it was the Grizzlies who were able to break through on a try by Zach Patfield (Minesing).

Georgian also had tries from Marcus Botham (Innisfil), Rodrigo Cuello (Uraguay), Braidon Foster (Barrie), and Liam Wilson (Orillia).

The Grizzlies reclaimed the Brown Bear Trophy after the Bruins were the winners last season. Georgian is now ahead in the Battle of the Bears series 2-1 having won the inaugural year, two seasons ago.

Georgian improved their season record to 4-0 as they sit alone the OCAA west division standings as the only undefeated team.

The Grizzlies have two games remaining in their regular season schedule, first they will host the Humber Hawks (2-2) this coming Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.

Georgian will then wrap up their regular season schedule when they travel to face the Seneca Sting (3-1) on Oct. 17.

Tickets to Georgian’s final regular season home game against Humber will be available at the doors for $5. For those unable to attend, the game can be watched online at GeorgianGrizzlies.ca/WatchLive.
