Hardy hikers brave snow storm for trek through woods

Members of the Orillia Hiking Club donned snowshoes to trek through snow-swept fields and trails in the Moonstone area Thursday

Members of the Orillia Hiking Club braved what felt like blizzard conditions on Thursday to snowshoe in the Moonstone area.

This was a short 1.5-hour hike that took the hardy participants across fields, through a mixed wood, by a creek, across the creek, and finally back to the leader’s home to enjoy lunch and cider.

"The weather continues to challenge us with variable conditions, but thanks to having snowshoes, and ice crampons, and poles, we can tackle almost anything," said club member Carol Strickland.

The club has plenty of hikes offered in the upcoming winter season. Want to join? Go to the group's website and go to “find a hike" for more information on upcoming events.
