The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team hosted the Durham Lords in the OCAA gold medal final on Sunday afternoon at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.

It was an incredible showing of rugby in an extremely intense, tight matchup between two evenly matched teams.

It was the Lords who struck first in the first half on tries from Jordan Henry (Whitby) and Patrick Lynch (Oshawa) which put their team ahead for a 12-0 lead.

The Grizzlies were not to be outdone as Tennyson Brown (Alliston) was able to score a try of his own along with a convert from Ryan Connolly (Barrie) to narrow the gap to 12-7 at halftime.

The physical play continued in the second half with both teams battling for field position. Tennyson Brown struck again for the Grizzlies with a try but was quickly followed by a score by Daniel Cooper (Uxbridge) for the Lords to hold the lead.

Both teams continued their relentless play as Tennyson Brown was able to score his third try of the game late in the second half but that was as close as they would get as the Lords took home the gold medal defeating the Grizzlies 22-17.

This is Georgian’s fifth straight medal in OCAA men’s rugby, having now won silver each of the previous two years. They also won one gold in 2016, an additional silver in 2015 and a bronze in 2017.

The Grizzlies had two championship game all-stars in Tennyson Brown and Donovan Jackso (Brampton) along with being awarded the championship game’s fair play award which went Joseph Alaimo (Innisfil).
