Canadian women finish seventh at Rugby Sevens World Cup in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO — The Canadian women finished seventh at Rugby Sevens World Cup tournament in San Francisco on Saturday after beating Russia 22-10.

Earlier on Saturday, Canada lost to Spain 26-14 in a game to play for fifth place.

The women's team was eliminated from title contention Friday when it lost on the final play in a 24-19 defeat at the hands of France.   

On the men's side, Canada topped Japan 35-17 in the Challenge quarterfinals and will face Australia in the semis Sunday.

The Canadian men were ousted in the round of 16 as they were shut out by Argentina 28-0 on Friday.
