Barbara Joan Browning, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in Barrie on December 22 at the age of 92.
Barbara was the devoted wife of Don Browning, her partner and best friend for an incredible 73 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and fun. They cherished life’s adventures from their many trips to Florida to attending countless concerts and plays that filled their lives with music and memories. Barbara was the proud mother of Nancy, Bob and Andy, and a loving mother-in-law to Lisa. Known affectionately as “Mimi,” Barbara doted on her grandchildren—Sarah (Blake), Nick (Courtney), Tobin, and Ashley (Mitch)—and found endless joy in her great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Maya, Hudson, Lily, Graham, Easton, Bryce and Steven.
Barbara’s early years were filled with joy and adventure growing up with her 10 sisters and brothers in Barrie. She excelled as an award-winning window dresser in her youth, showcasing her natural talent for design and creativity. An avid artist, Barbara found beauty in painting and crafting, passions she carried throughout her life.
Barbara was also deeply connected to her community as a longtime member of Central United Church and Grace United Church, where she shared her faith and compassion.
Barbara was known for her keen fashion sense and caring nature. She had an innate ability to make others feel loved and valued, especially children, who always held a special place in her heart. Barbara touched countless lives with her warmth and generosity, and her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those who knew and loved her.
A private celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Hospice Simcoe.
