Clarke, Lowell, Byron “Knobby”
Captain L. Clarke
October 9, 1936 – October 21, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Knobby.

Lowell Clarke, son of Arnold and Martha Clarke, born October 9, 1936, in Pictou, Nova Scotia. The Clarke family moved to Hope, British Columbia where Knobby graduated from Hope High School and joined the military. It was here that Knobby became a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force. When stationed at Greenwich, Nova Scotia, Knobby met the love of his life, Nettie. It was love at first sight. Knobby and Nettie were married in Greenwood.

Both Knobby and Nettie had successful careers with the RCAF which moved them from Nova Scotia to Ottawa, overseas to England and finally Barrie, Ontario. Knobby and Nettie called Barrie home for the last 50 years. Knobby retired from the RCAF and moved to the private sector flying for fellow RCAF pilot Max Ward’s company Ward Air. Captain L. “Knobby” Clarke finally retired with Canadian Airlines, which is now Air Canada. Knobby was a devoted husband and proud Royal Canadian Air Force Veteran. His legacy of love, resilience and unwavering support to family and friends will remain in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace Knobby, you are deeply missed.

Predeceased by his wife, Nettie, his parents Arnold and Martha and sister, Penny. Survived by brother, Gary Clarke of British Columbia and many nephews’ nieces’ and friends. Knobby was especially close with his nephew, Richard Roulston. A special thank you to longtime friend and neighbour, Janie Harris for all your loving support to Nettie and Knobby over the years. Thank you to the cheerful staff at Amica. Both Nettie and Knobby enjoyed residing at Amica Barrie. Thank you to the Royal Victoria Hospital Doctors and Nurses who provided wonderful care during Knobby’s brief illness.

In keeping with Knobby’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There is a family grave side internment at Barrie Union Cemetery (338 Sunnidale Rd, Barrie, ON) on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
