It is with much love and great sadness that the family of Dianne Marion Fortnum announces her passing on December 22, 2024, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Barrie, Ontario. 

She was born on September 29, 1946, in Etobicoke, Ontario. Dianne was the first child of Olaf and Marion Nielsen. Dianne attended Humber Bay Public School, Royal York Collegiate , the University of Waterloo, and Teachers College at the University of Toronto. 

She married the love of her life, John R., on June 30, 1972. John and Dianne had two children, Jennifer Christine and Joseph John. Dianne was a much-loved teacher of mathematics for many years at Victoria Park Secondary School in North York, Ontario, and at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph, Ontario. 

She loved to read, play sudoku, travel with family, make jam and pickles, and do all kinds of crafts, which she gave as gifts and are cherished by family and friends. Her dogs were a special part of her life, Taffy, Mason, Max, and Mason the second. 

Dianne is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her husband John, her daughter Jennifer and husband Uroy, her son Joseph, her grandchildren Philip and his mom Queenie and Benjamin, her sister Carole and husband Mike, her brother Paul, and sister Christine and husband Gord. Also, she was the much-loved aunt of Lisa and her family, Michael and his family, Adam, Diava, Paul, Carl, and many cousins. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Olaf and Marion, and her in-laws, Russell and Kay. 

Celebration of life will be at Westside Lutheran Church, 510 Ferndale Dr N, Barrie, ON L4N 0S1, on Saturday January 11th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.. 

Special thanks to the caregivers at the I.O.O.F. home - Kempenfelt Court for ensuring she was well cared for.
