October 16, 1950 – March 4, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard John William Humpage, who died peacefully on March 4, 2025, at the age of 74. Richard was born on October 16, 1950, in Cardiff, Wales, and spent much of his life in Canada, where he built a successful career with Aurora Cable and Rogers Communications.
A passionate man of many interests, Richard found joy in his lifelong hobbies, particularly his love for G-scale model trains, which he meticulously crafted and cherished. He was also a talented bass guitarist, playing in numerous bands spanning 50 years, including Five of a Fashion, Middle Earth, Yesterday Shoppe, Areakode, Tyme, Eclipz, BackBeat and Rebound where his musical talent and lively spirit were appreciated by all who had the pleasure of hearing him play and jamming together with him. He could often be found tinkering with his ham radios and CB’s known as VE3 U0D.
Richard was predeceased by his father, Robert Clearance Humpage, his mother, Hilda Rose Humpage (nee Dursley), and his sister Anne Humpage. He leaves behind his sister Clare, wife Cathy (nee Forhan) and will be dearly missed by his loving daughters Amanda (Robert) Judd and Sarah-Catherine (Jason) Hunter. His grandchildren, Madison, Owen, and Graham, will forever treasure the fond memories they shared with their granddad. Richard will also be sadly missed by Diane, Layla and Harper, we hope his memory brings them comfort.
Richard will be fondly remembered by many friends for his infectious sense of humour, musical talents, and the love he had for his trains. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A special thank you to the ICU doctors and nurses at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie who cared for him in his final days.
A cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Richard’s life will be held at a future date. Details will be shared with family and friends.
