It is with deep sadness that we announced the passing of Helene after a short battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe joining her beloved husband, Bill, for all of eternity.

Helene was the loving wife to predeceased Bill Kerr, loving mother to Julie Savoy (nee Kerr), doting Nana to Nicole (Jessie) Savoy, Kyle Savoy (Kassy Hillmer), and great Nana to Alder and Callan Savoy. Her final wish and great joy was achieved when she got to meet her week old great grandsons before passing.

Helene is predeceased by her parents, Jan and Bintje (nee Mosselman) Schievink and sister Sandra Maddox (nee Schievink). She leaves behind beloved family members, Beverly (Eric - Valerie and Heather) Wasmund, Brenda (Alex) Magnusson, Donna (Cooper and Megan) Magnusson, Hilda Donnelly, Angela (Sam, and Zach) Vance, and Ann Donnelly.

Helene will be greatly missed by those she adopted as family (the Daoust’s, Cox’s, Lewis’s and TeBokkel’s), those who only knew her as simply “Nana” and her many quilt buddies.

Helene was an avid quilter, belonging to many quilt groups and guilds and she loved being creative in many other areas such as knitting, painting and sewing. She loved reading, music, dancing, going “shop hopping” and helping anyone who needed it. She was fiercely loyal and loving to her family and friends.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire team at RVH hospital on the seniors specialized care ward. You all gave Helene comfort and caring for the two months she was with you; to the MAID/palliative care doctors and all the compassionate staff and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe, who showed Helene and her family, such kindness, compassion and care in her final weeks; and to Helene‘s many visitors at RVH and Hospice Simcoe that kept her spirits up and showed her your unconditional love and support.

Cremation has taken place and an internment at Barrie Union Cemetery and celebration of life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Hospice Simcoe. Words of comfort may be sent to the family through Peaceful Transitions at www.peacefultransition.ca.
