James “Jim” Knowles passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie on Monday, December 30th, 2024.
Born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland on May 1, 1929 to John and Letitia Knowles. He moved to Canada with his beloved wife of 62 years, Rachel (deceased 2016), in 1957, spending most of their time in Toronto before moving to Barrie.
Jim is survived by his son Christopher (Debbie), and two loving granddaughters Kara (Nathan) and Kristen. Jim is also survived by family in Northern Ireland and Canada. He is predeceased by his ten brothers and sisters.
He could always be found outside at home tending to his grass and roses or chatting happily with neighbours. He enjoyed golfing with friends, rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and sharing stories about his career working at A&P/Dominion distribution centre in Toronto until his retirement in 1994.
Jim asked that we express his gratitude to the staff at Roberta Place and Serenity Retirement Home for the support they provided him in his final years and to his friends that visited regularly.
Jim has been cremated and there will be a family-only interment at Barrie Union Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of flowers or donations, he requested that people spend quality time with their family.
