Klaas James (Jim) Koster passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Jim was born in Geesbrug, Nederland, on May 30, 1936. He grew up to become an outstanding tradesman specializing in repairing refrigeration, gas, and electrical appliances. After 32 years working with Inglis Appliances, including many years training other technicians to become independent contractors, he retired and started his own very successful Mr. Utopia appliance repair business for another 20 years. Jim had a full and rich life volunteering in the community and helping others. He was kind and generous with both friends and family. He loved fishing, golfing, and particularly spending time outdoors maintaining his large rural property.

He had 1 child, Kirby with the love of his life, Denise, his wife of 65 years. Jim has four adult grandchildren, Sonja (partner Josh), Stephen (partner Clarissa), Conrad (spouse ‘Manapo’), and Jason. Jim loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them on family outings and holidays.

His marriage of 65 years reflects his love and dedication to his wife.

Denise and Jim did most things together and Denise supported him throughout the last 3 years of compounding health challenges. Jim’s number one concern was his family and making sure they were well supported. He was also very kind to neighbours and friends. Jim particularly enjoyed having friends and family visit.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent St., Barrie) from 11am – 12pm with the Memorial Service to follow. Following the service, a reception will take place.
