Claire Irene Lajoie (née Spénard)
October 15, 1937 – December 13, 2022
On Monday, 13 December 2022, Claire Irene Lajoie (née Spénard), loving mother and grandmother, great-grandmother passed away at age eighty-five. Born to Elzear and Aldea Spénard, in Eastview, Ontario, Claire will be remembered as fearless provider, protector, advocate and cheerleader to her two children and for her boundless love for her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, never missing a milestone – even when an ocean apart. Colloquially, they will remember her as Ninja Turtle tracker, New Year’s Eve hostess extraordinaire and as family game night frontrunner “Ottawa Slim.” Her great-grandchildren will be blessed with many beautiful, inspiring, and often funny stories about their great-grandma Claire.
Deeply saddened by her passing is her son, Denis “Gars Gars”, daughter Carole (Brian Hartzell), her grandchildren Stephanie (Travis Gaudet) and Bobby (Renee Lapointe) and great grandchildren, Weston and Bria. She is also survived by her brother Gerald (Therese Montreuil), brother-in-law, Georges Lajoie (Lucie Piecki) and sister-in-law, Louise Bergeron (Paul).
Thank you to all the devoted staff of the IOOF in Barrie, Ontario for their kindness and care. The family will always remember.
As per Claire’s wishes a cremation has taken place. A private family internment will follow at a later time at Notre-Dame Cemetery in Ottawa.
