It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas John Peter Miles, who left us on July 13, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer at age 84.

Nicholas was born on May 25, 1940, in Gravesend, England, to parents Margaret Huntley and James Lord Miles. He immigrated to Canada when he was 17 years of age, and made his home in Barrie, Ontario for over 50 years. Nick worked as a truck driver for 35 years until he retired at age 63. Nick was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Cavell, and a loving father to his children Michael (Leanne), Chris (Kim), Graham (Stephanie), Jennifer (Tom), and Kelly. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Christopher and daughter Kimberly. His loss will be mourned by his older sister Jenifer and her extended family. He will be fondly remembered by all his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Avery and Finn, who held a special place in his heart. Grampie was their biggest fan, attending soccer matches, basketball games, track meets and more. Grampie was always willing to play cards, darts, and washer toss, never being one to let the kids win. Nick had a passion for sports, with golf holding a special place in his heart. He spent countless hours on the greens, enjoying the game and the camaraderie it brought. His love for sports extended beyond golf, as he was an avid soccer fan and a life-long Arsenal supporter. Nick was always willing to talk about the latest match or his team's standing in the league. Nick and Cavell spent many summers at their cottage in Nova Scotia, and they enjoyed their time on the east coast with family and friends. Nick's life was marked by his remarkable spirit and his unwavering dedication to his family and passions. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness and warmth, and his ability to bring joy to those around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 6, 2024, at the Ferndale Banquet Hall from 1p.m. - 4 p.m. to honor Nick's memory. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice Simcoe or a charity of your choice. Rest in peace, Nick. Your memory will forever live on in our hearts.
