(December 28, 1942 - December 20, 2016) - Intelligent, charismatic, loyal and generous, John passed away peacefully following a brief but noble battle with mesothelioma. He is survived by his cherished daughter Megan (Christian), his beloved grandchildren Rowan and Elliot, and his partner in life, love and adventure, Karen. In his final days he was surrounded by his many loyal friends and closest family members.
Born in Thornbury, ON, John’s childhood was spent among the apple orchards of the Georgian triangle. In his younger years, he was an avid skier and craftsman. An accomplished lawyer, John was a staple in the Barrie business scene for more than 50 years. He was knowledgeable and respectful with his colleagues, and deeply fond of his team. John was happiest casting a fishing line into the open waters of Georgian Bay, playing crokinole at Lighthouse Point, photographing sunrises and sunsets, and debating anything and everything with those foolish enough to challenge him.
His family is eternally grateful for the care provided by Hospice Simcoe and his medical team, led by Dr. Strangway. Family and friends will gather in the New Year to celebrate the life of John Mitchell, a man who was a true gentleman until the very end. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Simcoe would be greatly appreciated. Online memories and condolences may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com.
