August 23, 1943 – October 19, 2024

Sally Evelyn Murray passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2024 at Simcoe Hospice with husband Larry and family by her side. She was born on August 23, 1943 as the youngest of five children to Dr. Gordon and Mary Mellow in Guelph. She is survived by her sister Shirley of Calgary, and predeceased by her sister Marilyn, and her brothers James and Godwin (Sonny).

Sally spent her childhood in Guelph and on completion of high school worked for a year as a secretary of that high school. She then went to Toronto Bible College. Following which she returned to Guelph to improve her marks for nursing school.

In 1967, Sally was accepted at Hôtel Dieu Hospital in Kingston for the Registered Nursing Program. She graduated in 1970 and won the general proficiency award for her class. She also won the heart of Larry and they married later that year.

Since Larry was in the military, they moved several times starting in Kapuskasing, Ontario; to Lahr/Schwarzwald, West Germany (where her son David was born); to Pembroke (where her son Peter was born); London, and finally Barrie. In each location, Sally was employed as a nurse and in Barrie she had the opportunity to teach other nurses through Georgian College in Orangeville.

Though Sally loved nursing, she loved teaching nursing students even more. Unfortunately, the wear-and-tear on Sally was too much and she had to retire. But along came beautiful grandchildren, Jack and Jamie, to fill her heart and give life new meaning.

In the past five years, Sally’s heath noticeably declined to the point where she was almost housebound. She was hospitalized for three weeks in October before moving to hospice where her journey ended. She leaves behind many friends and a family with an unfillable void.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. Donations in Sally’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County and are greatly appreciated by the family. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.steckleygooderham.com
