It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Steven Henry Nyitray on November 23rd at 12:30pm. Steven is predeceased by wife Emily and son Micheal and is survived by his two sons David and Steve. He was a proud grandfather to grandchildren Katie, Ciara, and Chloe and great grandfather to Carter.
Steve came from humble beginnings born into a farming family in Waterford, Ontario, but his life really began when he met the love of his life, Emily Sywak. Throughout his life, Steve would often attest to leaving home with nothing but a toothbrush to join the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), a profession that would shape Steve into a man of servitude, commitment, and family over his five decades of service.
Steve’s identity as a proud husband, father, and a serving member of RCAF were deeply intertwined. Over the years, Steve achieved memorable accomplishments such as running relay from Barrie to Montréal, qualifying for the Boston Marathon, achieving the rank of Warrant Officer, and picking up a third career as a locksmith business owner in his 60s that lasted into his 80s. However, above all, Steve’s legacy should be defined by his devotion to his family. It was his love for Emily, and all that they created, that pushed him through times of tragedies to be the best husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His granddaughters are forever changed by the guidance of Steve.
He will always be remembered as a man of honour and his legacy will be carried forward in all the magic he has left behind.
Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, with a Funeral Mass being held on Monday, December 16 at St. John Vianney Parish, 13 Baldwin Lane, Barrie.
