James Andrew Quinlan, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and good friend passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital on January 3rd 2025 at the age of 85. Jim will be reunited with his parents Margaret & Mike and his three siblings Bob, Sharon & Norm.
Jim was a proud father of Lyn, Bryan, Shannon and a loving father in law to Chris. Loving grandfather to Kent (Ginny), Marissa (Kate), Scott (Katie), Victoria (Danielle) and Christopher (Mariana). Jim found endless joy in his great grandchildren Lawson, Michael and Ethan. He will be missed by his niece and nephews, Christine, Thomas, Robert and David.
Jim, or “Quincy” as many people knew him as, was born February 11th 1939 in Barrie, Ontario. He lived the majority of his life in Barrie and later moved to Innisfil. Jim attended Barrie Central where he played basketball and football. Jim was fond of sports and played in the Barrie and District mens fastball league for 20+ years on the Lakeview Dairy team.
He was a devoted Toronto Maple Leaf fan. He had always hoped he would see them win another Stanley Cup, but was always bragging about the number of championships he had already witnessed in his lifetime.
Jim was known for his witty sense of humour. He enjoyed the spotlight whether it be telling a good story, auctioneering, hosting, singing or playing the wash tub bass which he fondly referred to as the gut bucket. He played his bucket and sang with the bands Country Tyme, and New Kids on the Dock. He always looked forward to performing for the crowds.
Some may remember Jim from Bayfield Billiard Lounge. His love and skill at pool prompted him to build a business around it. He spent many years later, competing in a seniors snooker league and enjoyed a game of billiards whenever he could. He also spent a few seasons with Springwater Golf Course, another sports passion. Combining golf with his annual Horseshoe Tournament held in Minesing.
Jim loved woodworking and creating some unique projects. He enjoyed spending his summer weekends at Simpsons Farm selling his beautiful benches and talking about local history with the people who stopped in.
Jim's presence in the world will be greatly missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
