Harold Randal Quinn (Randy Quinn), age 66, born near Canadian Air Force Base (CFB) Marville, France, and grew up on military bases of CFB Moose Jaw and CFB Trenton in his early life. Before eventually residing in Barrie, Ontario, in 1991, Randy worked in various locations, including Calgary, Stratford, Guelph and across southern and central Ontario. After a three-year battle with cancer, Randy passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe on September 13, 2024 surrounded by his wife Valerie (Wilson) and their two children Matthew Quinn and Kaitlan Beardmore (Corey). Randy is pre-deceased by his parents Mae (Heintz) and Harold Quinn. He is survived by his brothers, Wesley and Andrew Quinn, and his sister, Kathy Upton (Mike).

Randy worked 50 years in the broadcasting industry and was known to many as Randy Richards, having worked at Rock 95 in Barrie for 30 years. He attended Loyalist College for broadcasting in Belleville Ontario. He worked for various radio stations as a broadcaster, including in Belleville, Calgary, Stratford, Guelph, Newmarket, and Barrie. He also received sales and marketing training by the Thomson Newspaper Group and helped many local businesses thrive in Central Ontario.

Randy married Valerie in 1983 and together they welcomed two children, Matthew (1986) and Kaitlan (1989). Randy was first and foremost a family man, and he enjoyed and participated in many of the activities his children were engaged in, including 6 am hockey practices, figure skating competitions, and soccer. He also coached his daughter’s soccer team for many years leading many rep teams to championship seasons, including the women’s Barrie Spirit soccer team, and earning the York Regional Soccer League’s Steinhorst Cup in 2010 in his last year of coaching. Many of his former players describe him as having an integral role in their lives, including in their formative years, and cherish the role he played in their lives both on and off the field.

Randy loved live music and spent many years as a judge in the Barrie Local and Loud competitions. He was a leader in the music industry, helped to promote grassroots Canadian talent and supported many local community initiatives. Randy was a wealth of positivity and was the type of person who loved to meet people and left a lasting impression. He could always get you laughing whether on the air or in person and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
