March 14, 1938 - February 24, 2024
With sadness but cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Carol 'Carol' Rix on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Hospice Simcoe in her 86th year of life. Carol will be fondly remembered for her love of nature, animals and inspiring independence.
Carol leaves behind her sister, Georgie (the late Robert Lackie), Sister-in-law Beverley (the late Allan Rix), and is predeceased by her beloved siblings Margaret (Robert Sinclair), Donald Rix, Shirley (Eldon Atkinson), and her parents James and Christena Rix. She was the proud Aunt of 10 nieces and nephews, each touched by her example, and their children who carry her legacy forward. Carol's life was richly intertwined with many lifelong friends, who now hold her memory close.
Born and raised on the Rix Family farm in Crown Hill, Carol's journey was marked by compassion and service. A graduate of the Registered Nurse Class of 1958, Carol embarked on a noble nursing career that took her from the Northern reaches of Kapuskasing to the sun-kissed shores of Bermuda, and even across the vast expanse of California, until she retired as the esteemed Head Nurse of the old RVH Operating Room.
Her more recent years were spent as an active member of the Woods Park retirement community.
Animals held a special place in Carol's heart, particularly her loyal labs, Nick and Rob, and her affectionate companion, Lil the cat.
Her reverence for nature was palpable in every flower she tended, every sunrise and sunset she witnessed, and every golf game she played in the early morning mist at Shanty Bay Golf Course. A dedicated photographer, she enjoyed capturing animals and nature alongside many golden summers spent at her cottage on Lake Simcoe. In addition to nursing, Carol's gentle hands crafted not only delicious bread and buns but also amazing wood carvings of owls, loons, and cats gifted to many family and friends.
In accordance with Carol’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place. Interment at St James Cemetery, Crown Hill will be held on May 11, 2024 at 12pm. Visitation will follow at Legacy Funeral Home, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (entrance and parking on Hwy 400 side of the building) from 1-2pm and a Celebration of Life at 2pm where stories of Carol's rich life and enduring legacy can be shared amongst those whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Carol's memory with a donation to Hospice Simcoe or the SPCA.
Thank you to Dr Piri Fejes for providing wonderful care to Carol for many years.
