June 20, 1947 - Feb. 23, 2019 - Sorrowfully, we announce the peaceful passing of Jane Rumble at the Simcoe Hospice on Feb. 23, 2019 after a gallant battle with cancer, diagnosed in 2000. Born in Hamilton in 1947, to parents, Norman John (Jack) Denholm and Catherine Denholm (Galbraith.) Survived by brother John Denholm (Cathy), and predeceased by sisters Ann Denholm Crosby (David) and Susan Denholm (John.) Loving wife of Bruce, mother to Michael Curry (Mary), step mother to Darren (Jennifer) and Carrie (Jason Tricker), and amazing grandma to Jordan, Sean, Carson, Chris, Brandon, Alexa and Graeson. Nieces and nephews, Andrew (Kim, Holly and Jack), Peter (Leaha and Emily) and Kate (Susi and Owen) will miss their spirited aunt. Jane led an exceptional life full of humour, wit, style and grace. She made fast friends everywhere she went, including her final stay at the Royal Victoria Hospital. She spent most of her adult life teaching English and History and leaving her mark as a Guidance Counselor at Barrie Central Collegiate. Along the way, she developed a taste for red leather boots, Globe and Mail cryptic crosswords, travel in distant lands, short game golf, Tina Turner and the Platters, Kempenfelt walking with her many friends and just being plain effervescent. Also, her ardent feminism found an outlet in knitting pink hats! We will all miss you, Jane, but we will never forget your spirit.
The family wishes to thank all of the people who strove to help Jane through the past months: the North Muskoka LHIN, the wonderful nursing staff at the RVH and Bayshore, the caring nurses and PSWs at Hospice Simcoe, Doctors Kukreti, Russel, Yoon, Zhou, Deboer and Kolesky and finally, the many friends and neighbours of this wonderful woman.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Simcoe or a charity of your choice would be most appreciated. And, to further honour her, drink in life and remember to pay it forward.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be private.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Liberty North, 100 Caplin Ave., Barrie, ON
