With heavy hearts, Jesse and I announce the passing of Norman Schell on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at the age of 87.  Norman is now reunited with his beloved wife, Karen.  He was a cherished father to Wendy Rivet and a proud grandfather to Jesse Rivet.

Norman is survived by his dear sister, Dorothy Reiner, and was predeceased by his siblings: Kathleen Howey, Doreen Eckert, Millie Runstedler, Karen Schell, and Richard (Rocky) Schell.  He was also predeceased by his parents, Jerome Schell and Rita Carson.

Norman will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

One of Norman's fond memories was getting together with his sisters and family to make their famous "piggies".  He also loved baking, especially making Jesse's birthday cake each year—his delicious double chocolate layer cake – Yum!.

Norman often said, “I still have my suit that I was married in, and I will also be buried in it”.  In honour of this, Norman was cremated in that same suit.

We would like to thank the many organizations that supported Norman during his final journey, including Dr. Kelly Emerson – Palliative Care Management at RVH, the doctors at the Family Medical Teaching Unit at RVH, the Cancer Centre at RVH, Saint Elizabeth Health Care and the nurses who cared for him, especially Eric, Ontario Health at Home and Hospice Simcoe.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Peaceful Transition. Messages of condolence or memories of Norman can be shared with the family at www.peacefultransition.ca.

A small ceremony will be held in late spring or early summer at the Elmira Union Cemetery, where Norman will be placed beside his wife, Karen, for his final resting place.  Date and time to be announced.
