September 24, 1952 – September 28, 2023
We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Michael Speirs on Thursday, September 28th, 2023 at the age of 71.
Mike (or Mikey as he was affectionately known) was the most loving father to Katherine Speirs (Ryan Giffen), and devoted and loving partner to Ann “Annie” Caulfield for 26 years. He is also survived by his brothers David Speirs and Chris Speirs. He is predeceased by his parents James and Margaret Speirs, and brother Robert Speirs.
Mike was a graduate of The University of Toronto, a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and worked hard to become a Certified Management Accountant. He had a long and successful career as a Controller to various international companies, which afforded him the opportunity to travel, explore and meet new people in cities all over the world, which he loved to do.
Anyone who knew Mike knew that most of all he loved to golf, he was a proud Toronto Maple Leafs season ticket holder (4th generation since the 1930’s) and enjoyed his monthly poker game with his lifelong friends. He was also known to wake up at ridiculous times to watch The Ryder Cup or a Formula1 race.
Most of all, Mike was an incredible father, partner, and friend, who had the biggest and most generous heart. He made friends everywhere he went. He had a great sense of humour and was always joking around, and took as good of a ribbing as he would get from his friends. We are most thankful that he got to finally take his trip to Scotland in May, something he had been planning for years. He loved his time over there exploring the towns and castles and cemeteries for his ancestry, and he of course managed to make a few new friends at the pub over dinner and pints.
Dad / Mikey: we love and miss you and look forward to the day we can be together again. Until then, play lots of golf and maybe send the Leafs a little bit of luck.
A service is to take place on Thursday, October 5th at Jerrett Funeral Home, 1141 St Clair Avenue West, Toronto. Visitation from 11 am – 1 pm with service to follow. A private burial will take place at a later date. If anyone wishes in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Diabetes Canada.
