Doris Evelyn Tomes (nee Lloyd), a cherished mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Born in Wingham, Ontario, she spent her early years alongside her beloved Lake Huron. During her childhood, she accompanied her dad on trips while he delivered for Silverwoods, and it was during these drives that she developed her lifelong love for road trips and indulging in Pralines and Cream ice cream. As a young woman, she was progressive for her time; driving a car, living in her own apartment, and pursuing a career as an accountant.

After marrying and starting a family, she gracefully assumed the role of a minister’s wife, while experiencing various parts of Canada—from Big Trout Lake in northern Ontario to Gondola Point and Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick—and returning to Ontario, specifically Manitoulin Island, Bracebridge, and Barrie.

Doris was a stoic woman who faced many hurdles in her life, but she put her head down, moved on and looked after her family. She was a good mom who had sense of humour, and her absence will be deeply felt. Doris is survived by her five children, Catherine, Kanesia, Ruth, Matthew, Rebecca, who she loved dearly, their spouses and her many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A graveside burial will be held on July 20, 2024 at 1pm at St. Thomas Anglican cemetery in Bracebridge, Ontario.
