Passed peacefully at the age of 86 on December 13, 2023.  She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Henk.  Loved and missed by her children, Andy (Jan), Michael (Cindy) and Tina, her grandchildren, Cody and Ryan and her great grandchildren, Evie and Jake. She is predeceased by her sisters, Erni and Helga & brother-in-law, Peter, and her sister-in-law, Jane.  She will be fondly remembered by her brother-in-law, Arnold, and her nieces, nephews and friends.  Her love and caring for family and friends will remain with us all.

Christa, youngest daughter of Anna and Max, emigrated to Canada at the age of 19 and became a proud Canadian a few years later.  She worked at the Leitz Group in Midland until her marriage to Henk. After raising her children to school age, she worked in food preparation at Royal Victoria Hospital until her retirement.

Christa and Henk were active members of Trinity Anglican in Barrie and later at St Peter’s in Minesing.  She was active in church events and the altar guild, joined the Good Times Club and the Minesing Women’s Institute and enjoyed being a part of the Minesing community.  She loved to travel and see new places across Canada, the US and Europe.  When at home, she would spend her time gardening, baking and enjoying time spent with others.

Mom made friends all along the way, beginning with her arrival to Canada on day one, right up until the last several years living in Minesing.  She was still close to her childhood friends in Germany.  She would strike up a conversation easily, a quality that led to her very close friendships, both new and old.  Our home was always a welcoming place that many remember through the years.  Family and friends were always her foundation.

Our thanks to the surgeons and doctors that helped her live well in the last years of her life, to see those summers in her garden and her final trip to visit her daughter’s new home.  Our appreciation to the Palliative Care team on Medicine Inpatient who showed her such care in her last days.

A remembrance and celebration of Christa’s life will be held on July 13, 2024 in the Barrie area.  More details will be made available closer to the date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Elmvale Food Bank or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) would be appreciated by her family.
