April 21, 1965 – January 1, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Heather Marie Wakelin (née McDowell), age 59, on January 1, 2025, at the St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Born in Etobicoke, Ontario on April 21, 1965, Heather touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, compassion, and dedication. Heather was a devoted wife to her husband, Jim, and an adoring mother to their only son, Ryan.
In the mid-1980s, Heather moved from Toronto to pursue her nursing career at Georgian College before eventually working at the Humber Memorial Hospital, where her care and empathy made a lasting impact on many lives. In 1992, she married the love of her life, Jim, and together they built a beautiful family. After the birth of Ryan, Heather chose to retire from her career as a registered nurse to focus on raising her son, a decision that reflected her deep devotion to her family.
Heather was known for her loving and nurturing nature, always putting her family first. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support will be missed beyond measure. Jim not only lost his devoted wife but his best friend. Ryan, her loving son, will cherish every moment they shared, and will hold her memory close to his heart always.
In keeping with Heather’s wishes, cremation will take place. A private family service will be held in her honor. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. Online condolences and memories may be shared via www.steckleygooderham.com
Heather will be deeply missed, but her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
