Heaven gained another angel as Sylvia “Joan” Ward (nee Leach) devoted wife to the late Ronald Kingston Ward passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie, Ontario, on June 22nd, 2024, at the age of 89.
Joan was born in Alliston, Ontario on August 5th, 1934. She enjoyed being raised as part of a large family and that experience laid the foundation for her to build a large family of her own. There was seldom a time when Joan wouldn’t be found surrounded by her adoring family, ensuring everyone was well fed and showered with love. Joan loved to bake for her family and reminisce about fond memories with loved ones. Having endured many hardships in life including the loss of young children, Joan nonetheless maintained her gentle, humble nature, tenacious spirit and love of God. Joan dedicated her life to being a loving mother to Angela (Bob), Marsha (Joseph), Frederick, Ben (Elaine), Lawrence (Shannon), and James (Sarah), and was preceded in death by her dear children, Noel and Maureen. She will be greatly missed as a beloved sister to Shirley and Ellen; predeceased by Reta, Ruby, Eddie, and Gloria. Joan will forever be cherished by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many (great) nieces, (great) nephews, and extended family for her selfless, unconditional love, kind heart, and joyful spirit that uplifted everyone around her.
Sylvia Joan Ward’s legacy and lasting impact on the lives of her family will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29th. The family will receive guests within the reception lounge of Adams Funeral Home from 12-3 pm, offering finger foods and light refreshments.
