It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janis Dawn Wehrle on Sunday November 17, 2024 at the age of 71.
Janis was born in Oshawa Ontario to her much beloved parents, Donald and Dorothy Cordy.
Her sister Lesley was her life long friend and shared a bond that only sisters can share.
Janis leaves behind her beloved husband of 38 years Richard (Rick) and sons Jason (Jennie), Adam (Christy) and Shawn. Grandchildren Aaron, Colin and her beloved Olivia.
She will be sadly missed by her favourite mother-in-law Louise Wehrle (Bill).
Her extended family includes sister - in-law Wenndy (Ken). Nieces Meghan, Stephanie (Mike), Kristy (Dave). Nephews Joshua (Brittney) and Nathan (Megan). Great nieces Charlotte and Kenzie, also great nephews Cameron and Noah.
Throughout her working life, Janis had created a rich and diverse resume. From the retail industry to the insurance field, she held a variety of roles. She was an entrepreneur, running the local Baskin Robbins store for 17 years from which she retired in 2016.
After a very brief period of time, she realized that she was not ready for retirement and she returned to the workforce at Cafe Royale at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.
In December of 2022 she decided to try retirement again and this time it stuck.
Janis was a very social person and over the years had been a member of the Barrie Curling Club and was an active member of the local dragon boat community.
Her dragon boat team, Barrie’s Ribbons of Hope, is a breast cancer survivors team and this is where she found many strong and lasting friendships, a sisterhood like no other. Janis participated in events across Canada and around the world.
Janis was also an avid fan of sports and a loyal supporter of the Barrie Colts. She and Rick were long time season ticket holders and could be found at the arena on Thursday and Saturday nights cheering the team on.
Janis was a bright light and she leaves us with a warm glow that will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her. Her family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, and anyone else who had the pleasure of knowing her will deeply miss her.
Until we meet again.
