TORONTO — Ontario is reporting 179 new cases of COVID-19 today, along with eight additional virus-related deaths.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says 32 of the cases are in Waterloo, 27 are in Grey Bruce and 23 are in Toronto.
She says 207,507 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered on Friday, for a total of more than 16,800,000 since the launch of the province's immunization campaign.
The latest figures come a day after Ontario announced it would enter Stage 3 of reopening ahead of schedule due to the high vaccination rate and low COVID-19 case counts.
The province will allow indoor concert venues, cinemas and theatres to open with 50 per cent capacity or a maximum of 1,000 people starting on Friday.
Museums, galleries, zoos and other cultural sites will also be allowed to reopen, with 50 per cent capacity indoors and 75 per cent outdoors.
