Remains found in Uxbridge identified as those of Toronto man who went missing

Police in Durham Region say human remains found in Uxbridge, Ont., are those of a 32-year-old man reported missing in Toronto last year.

The force says a home owner in the Uxbridge area located a bag, which contained the body of a person, floating in a pond on May 10.

Police say the remains were sent to investigators with the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, who confirmed they are those of 32-year-old Ariel Kaplan.

Kaplan was reported missing to Toronto police in August 2021.

The Durham Regional Police Service's major crime and homicide unit and Toronto police are investigating.

Anyone who spoke with or saw Kaplan prior to his disappearance, or with information on what happened, is asked to contact police.
