Area resident charged after $600K worth of items stolen

Police say items were stolen from numerous jurisdictions in Ontario

A Grey Highlands resident is facing numerous charges following a multi-jurisdictional theft investigation.

On June 17, the OPP’s Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of Halton Regional Police, made the arrest.

On June 18, a search warrant was executed at a storage location in West Perth, where stolen property was recovered, police said in a news release.

On June 19, another warrant was executed at a rural property on Highway 10 in Grey Highlands.

Property that had been stolen from numerous jurisdictions was recovered during the searches.

Stolen from Perth County were a New Holland skid steer, a Somero concrete laser levelling screed, a Pace enclosed trailer, a Ski-Doo MXZ snowmobile, and various tools. A Can-Am four-wheeler was stolen from Bruce County. Stolen from Huron were a Ford F-150, a Ford F-450, a Bobcat stand-on mini-loader, and a Tow Tek enclosed trailer. A Rockwood Mini Lite travel trailer was stolen from Oxford County. A GMC Duramax truck was stolen from Middlesex. Police also recovered a dual-axle dump trailer, an enclosed dual-axle trailer, a flatbed dual-axle trailer, two generators, a shotgun, an SKS rifle, ammunition, and two modified magazines.

The total estimated value of the recovered items is $600,000.

Barren Yundt, 32, has been charged with the following in Perth County:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (three counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (three counts)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (three counts)
  • Fraudulent concealment

The accused has been charged with the following in Grey County:

  • Possession of a firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited device — modified magazines (two counts)
  • Careless storage of a firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (seven counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (nine counts)
  • Altering/removing/destroying a vehicle identification number (three counts)

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
